Jayden Londerville Makes Return to Racing After Injury

HEDGESVILLE, W. Va. – New to the ATV Motocross National Championship schedule, Tomahawk MX Park served up one of the roughest tracks that competitors have seen in years. Deep holes developed in the sand-and-mulch mix, easily swallowing racers trying to reach the checkered flag.

With multiple injuries this race season that required Jayden Londerville to sit out and recover, he made his return to racing over Independence Day weekend. Round eight of the series saw the 4130 Motorsports rider post 12-14 moto results for 14th overall on the hot and demanding event weekend.

After the first qualifying session, Londerville and his mechanic worked with Doug Schiltz Motorsports to make some big adjustments to his setup. Londerville was able to feel more comfortable in the second qualifying session.

The 20-year-old carefully developed his plan of attack for the motos, as the temperature outside was intensifying. In the first moto, he launched out of the gate aboard his Yamaha YFZ450R but was shuffled back to 12th. He was able to gain a position and hold it for several laps before the heat and rugged terrain began to wear on Londerville and slow his pace. He crossed the line in 12th. Between the motos, he continued to focus on hydration and nutrition in anticipation for another race in the heat.

His start was similar in the second moto. Hanging in 13th against a field of top ATV racers, Londerville did his best to chase down the racers ahead of him. With two laps to go, his body was feeling the effects of the heat and he slipped to 14th. He crossed the line in that same position.

His 12-14 results earned him 14th on the day.

“I was feeling good coming into the first race back after a few injuries,” Londerville said. “I ended up having a bad first qualifier. We made some huge bike changes for the second qualifier. It felt night and day different, and I ended up qualifying better. Going into moto one, I was feeling okay, but it was really hot out. Being my first race back, I knew it would be a struggle. I was running a few good laps, had good speed, but the heat got to me in that moto and I fell back fast. Moto two was basically the same — the heat got to me again.”

Looking Ahead
Even with challenges thrown Londerville’s way this season, his attitude has remained positive. As his body as allowed him to, he’s continued to practice on the track and in the gym during time away from the races. It will take some time to return to peak performance on race day, but the Wisconsin-based rider is motivated. He will continue his training, while being cautious not to aggravate any lingering injuries, until the next race in a couple weeks.

“I’m definitely bummed out with the results,” Londerville said. “But we know we have work to do going forward, and we’ll be back next round better.”

Pleasure Valley Raceway in Seward, Pennsylvania, will hold the ninth round of racing on July 19-20.
