Building an Adventurous Community

Clint and myself are joined by Kane Wagner – Owner of Appalachian ADV.

Kane discusses the challenges he experienced when learning to ride later in life. He also elaborates on the various events and clinics he organizes, aimed at both beginner and intermediate riders.

“Do you feel like you’re getting a little bit newer riders or are you getting some experienced people? I don’t know if with the lessons or the classes that you have, it’s kind of like pulling in more people that are looking for that kind of advice.”

“I did my first two events in 2020, and it was a version of the Fool’s Ride. And I also did my first tour that year in PA Wilds, and I kind of pushed those out there. As you know, these are more upper-intermediate level rides that start kind of helped me grab a bunch of guys with experience that were really good riders and then having them kind of stick around these events. As I’ve grown, it has helped. So as I started adding the clinics in, I’ve definitely seen a bigger influx of less experienced riders showing up.

Adventure and dual sport is a community. With Appalachian ADV, I’m trying to build its own little micro-community within that. Having those beginner and intermediate clinics is a great way for people to kind of get introduced to it.”
