Bringing History Back

Larry Lawrence – Motorcycle Journalist and Historian – kicks off 2025 with Heather and Clint. Larry recounts his path into motorcycle journalism after racing didn’t go the way he imagined. The three also discuss books that he has contributed to, as well as Larry’s website, Rider Files, where he archives and shares historical racing photos.

“What kind of sparked your love of riding and history, specifically with motorcycling? How did you get your start in being a journalist?

Heather Wilson – Co-Host

“Well, I raced briefly. I road raced with WERA. Everything worked out great, except I hadn’t planned on crashing. It sort of messed up my budget. I hadn’t budgeted crashing and the repairs it would take for crashing. So my racing career ended prematurely then.

I still wanted to be involved with sport. I had a lot of friends who were racing and stuff like that.

So, I called up Cycle News and said, ‘Hey, do you need anybody to cover races?’

And Gary Van Voorhees, who was the associate editor at the time, said, ‘Yeah. Are you a photographer?’

I wasn’t, but I said, ‘Yes, I am.’
