Building Grassroots Roadracing into the Professional Ranks
Mike Witkowski – GNCC XC1 Class Pro Racer – joins myself and Clint to share how is he always eager to learn and improve, and that includes trying new disciplines of racing – like AMA Pro Motocross – during the GNCC summer break.
“Honestly, this has happened before where, like, not many things went right or the season in general, and you’re kind of just in this mental slump, and you question a lot of different things, and it’s hard.
It’s super hard to come out of that. And I think the biggest thing that helped me overcome that was just the people I surrounded myself with, and they honestly just pulled me out of it and helped that way. Even on your bad weekends or even if you’re having a bad season, it’s not the end of the world. Like, it happens.
And maybe it’s just not your year. Sometimes it just doesn’t go perfect, but you just gotta keep chugging on and realize that you get to race and ride your bike for a living. So not many people can say that.
Sometimes if it’s not going right, just taking a step back and seeing the big picture. If I can give it my best, then when I get done – whatever the result is – I can be happy about that.”
